The Spirit Inside

I started listening to a short morning devotion podcast lately. This week the guy has been talking about what it meant to have Jesus' spirit living inside us. And some of what he said got me thinking the following.

When we think of Jesus, we think about the mild-mannered Jesus. I am talking about seeing the pictures of Jesus with the lamb surrounded by children, and that's all good. That is Jesus and he is the same now and forever. But there is another side of Jesus that resides in us.

The Jesus that died on the cross. That was whipped and tortured and nailed on the cross for our sins. It's that Jesus that went down to hell, stomped on Satan's head, is battle tested and is a ferocious lion of a protective dad. A Jesus that is sitting at the right hand of the father and is ruler overall. That is who is on our side and whose spirit resides in us. So when we sit and think that we can't do something, or we're at the end of our rope. That is the Jesus that is ready to fight for us at the drop of a hat.

Jesus loves us so fiercely and could not bear something happening to his children. So he stayed near us to protect us. Because his spirit is with us He gave us the power but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. He gave us power over our bodies and our minds so that we could have peace in ourselves.  There's nothing for us to be afraid of because he did not give us a spirit of fear.

So I need to remember that is the Jesus that is inside of me. A battle tested fierce Warrior. And the gentle father with the lamb teaching children.

After the long day I had, I need the Jesus that will sit down and have a beer with me….
